Samsung Unveils Second Generation UMPC in NYC
Smaller and lighter in size, packed with new and enhanced features the new Samsung Q1 Ultra takes the UMPC to a new level.
Last night at the Samsung Experience in New York, Samsung took the wraps off the new Q1 Ultra, Ultra Mobile PC. The event showed off the Q1 at its best and gave the press the opportunity to view and experience the Q1 for themselves.
Paying close attention to the requests and feedback from consumers the new Q1 Ultra includes a significant number of enhancements and improvements including a split-QWERTY keypad, 4.5 hours of battery life, SRS TruSurround 3D, stereo speakers, enhanced LCD brightness, 1024 x 600 resolution, Support for 3.5G HSDPA wireless cellular modem communications, video chat web cam support and a high- resolution recorder/still picture camera video, enhanced biometrics and full Tablet PC capabilities.
There was plenty of time and opportunity for hands on experience with the Q1 Ultra, a 1.5 pound full functioning computer running Windows Vista in aero glass and capable of fulfilling the needs of everyone from the home entertainment guru to the road warrior and everyone in between.
Stations were set up to show off some of the many capabilities of the Q1 such as streaming video from a Slingbox and web chatting using a connection from Cingular wireless, watching movies, a representative from the University of Oklahoma showed how they were using the Q1 for the the K20 center which is aimed at creating 21st century interactive learning. Givemepower is using the Q1 for there PowerCad SiteMaster product, Guerilla Technologies was there with MobileEyes, an impressive program to help the visually impaired.

Q1 Ultra-EL – entry level configuration without the integrated cameras, fingerprint reader or SD/MMC enhancement slot. Supports the 600MHz Intel Ultra Mobile CPU, 1GB of system RAM, 40GB hard disk drive and Windows Vista Home Premium. $799.00
Q1 Ultra-XP – commercial configuration supporting the integrated cameras, fingerprint reader and the SD/MMC enhancement slot. Supports the 800MHz Intel Ultra Mobile CPU, 1GB of system RAM, 60GB hard disk drive and Microsoft Windows XP tablet Edition. $1,149.00
Q1 Ultra-V – primary consumer configuration supporting the integrated cameras and the SD/MMC enhancement slot. The fingerprint reader is not supported. Supports the 800MHz Intel Ultra Mobile CPU, 1GB of system RAM, 60GB hard disk drive and Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium. $1,199.00
Q1 Ultra-CMV – enhanced consumer & commercial configuration supporting the integrated cameras, fingerprint reader and the SD/MMC enhancement slot. Includes integrated HSDPA cellular modem. Supports the 800MHz Intel Ultra Mobile CPU, 1GB of system RAM, 80GB hard disk drive and Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium. $1,499.00
The first to ship will be the Q1 Ultra-V, followed by the Q1 Ultra-EL in late May, the Q1 Ultra-XP in early June and the Q1 Ultra-CMV in August.
