Sleek and thin with a beautiful display the Latitude XT Tablet PC is packed with features and small details that make the Dell Latitude Table PC experience stand out from the crowd.  The Latitude XT Tablet PC was the most anticipated Tablet PC since the product launch and for those who waited, it was worth the wait.

With so may Tablet PCs available today what makes the Latitude standout?

It's all in the details.....ease of use, an exceptional screen, there is no question that Dell paid careful attention to detail when designing the Latitude XT Tablet PC and its accessories.    Its sleek, sturdy and powerful, has a great pen and ink experience and the largest selection of connectivity options to date. Those are just some of the features that made the Dell Tablet PC stand out from the crowd.

The Dell Latitude XT Tablet PC Tablet PC has an exceptionally good indoor /outdoor display

Living in sunny Southern California and traveling back and forth across the country Its nice to be able to travel with one Tablet PC rather than several.  The flexibility of the Screen on the Dell allows me to demo it in a variety of conditions so I can travel with a single machine and not worry about clients being able to view the screen where ever we are.

If a meeting suddenly gets moved poolside or I find myself in a home with walls of glass overlooking the ocean I can still see what I'm doing.  I can still do a demo and I don't risk being embarrassed when I try to demo a machine that can not be seen in bright light.

Weighing in at 3.5 pounds the new Dell Latitude XT Tablet PC is housed in a black case with a simple circular Dell logo on the Top.  The case is Fingerprint resistant which is nice.

The screen on the Dell Latitude XT Tablet PC looks great in my office

The Pen and Ink Experience:  Two-button Battery-less Pen - The "Pen Feel" when your writing on the 12.1" WXGA display is is excellent, the right click button on the pen works nicely and writing flows easily.   Rather than an eraser on the end there is an eraser button below the right click button which take getting used to but actually works very well.  Pen storage compartment gives you easy access to the pen which makes it fingernail friendly for the female executives and students out there.

There is a pen light that blinks if your pen is missing from the holder and the you can chose how the XT reacts when the pen is removed from the pen slot

Battery: 2 hours 16 minutes of battery life with the 6 cell battery - brightness turned all the way up, the wireless and blue tooth on, no standby, sleep disabled and the screen and hard drive set to always on.

Dell claims up to 9.3 hours of battery life with the optional battery slice, and i can tell you that i saw people using the Dell for hours on end up at microsoft during the MVP summit.

There is no question that the setting I use for my battery test are going to give you the shortest amount of battery life.  this is done intentionally -I need to know the absolute minimum battery life I can expect, that is why I run the battery test this way.

Display: 12.1" WXGA (1280 X 800 resolution) LED-back-lit display is sharp, bright, crisp and clear - This is an exceptional screen which is something I find to be very valuable.

Speaker: . While the sound is clear, because it comes from a single speaker located on the left side of the machine, without a head set the sound is unbalanced and annoying.      (Two-channel high definition audio, Internal high definition audio one 4-ohm speaker Internal speaker amplifier 2-W channel into 4 ohms)

Who is it For:   While the Latitude XT was designed with the business user in mind, its will be a good choice for home users and students as well.

Most Notable Features:

Screen Quality:  First and foremost the Dell Latitude has a Exceptional Screen.  Clear, crisp and bright this screen is a pleasure to look at and easy to watch movies on in your spare time or on a flight.

Blue WiFi & Bluetooth lights on the right front bezel below the screen let you know at a glance if the wifi and bluetooth are on -this is a major improvement over a hunting for a tiny button on the side of a machine and switching it back and forth to see if the wifi is on or off.

Dell Super Small 45 Watt AC AdapterSuper Small 45 Watt AC Adapter

Super Small 45 Watt AC Adapter: 45% lighter than the 65W Adapter

One of the many little details that Dell paid close attention to is the size and weight of the power supply.  Now that I know "battery bricks" don't have to be big and bulky I hope that every OEM will take the initiative to do the same.    This is a "little feature" that made big points with me.

Optional Battery Slice  - that gives you up to 9.3 hours of battery life

Optional Media Base with built in DVD -/+RW

External DVD with built in cord keeper - another little detail that makes using and storing neat and easy. ( shown at right)

Everything about the Latitude XT feels strong and sturdy.   Its very comfortable in your hand and the keyboard feel good under your fingers.  Having the option of using the track pointer or the the track pad means everyone will be happy.  Personally I'm a fan of the track pad which is smooth and responsive.

The Dell XT Tablet PC that I had here was the 1.2GHz, running Windows Vista Business with 2 gig of ram.  Users have three pre configured base options they can customize to best suit their individual needs.   I highly recomend the optional battery slice which can give up up to 9 hours of  battery time.
