Tablet PC 2 Logo

It's no secret that here at Tablet PC 2 we're partial to sunglasses..

The Motion Tablet PC in our logo sports sunglasses and even at night its rare to find me without a pair on my head.   In fact, ever since I named the Oakley Thump the Product of the year for 2005  when I go to industry events and trade shows people look to see just what I'm wearing and ask what they do.

For those of you who were disappointed to find me wearing wearing Chanel sunglasses rather than a new pair of Oakley Razrwires or Thump 2's at CES last month I apologize.

Why wasn't I wearing my Razrwires in Vegas?

Two reasons, first because but the lenses in my Razrwires are to dark to wear inside or at night, and second because I was afraid someone would pluck them from my head and walk off with them and I didn't want to lose them.

Before you ask, the answer to the question why are we using more of Oakley's Photos instead of our own?

The answer is simple: Sunglasses are difficult to photograph and after multiple successfully attempts we felt that using Oakley's Photos was the best way to show you just how nice these products are.

While your far more likely to find me wearing the Thump 2 while cruising the slopes than in my convertable, this new version of the Oakley Thump has some nice improvements in comfort and sound.

THe sound quality on my original Thumps is excellent and with the new Thump 2 sunglasses its amazing.

Telescoping boom speakers can be aranged in a multitude of position to gaurentee a persioinalzed fit for everyone.  Another nice touch is that the speakers can be aligned with the arm of the glasses so they are out of the way and close to unnoticable.

Available in four Color combinations ranging between 512 and 1 gig in memory

If your worried about the thump 2 comming off when your engaged in outdoor sports, dont be.  I can literly turn cartwheels in them with them comming off.

What's in the Box:

  • Thump 2 Sunglasses
  • MicroClear Bag for cleaning and storage
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Charging cable
  • Accessories book
  • Oakley Registration Card

Lets start with why I favor Oakley Thumps over any of the other MP3 players sitting in my office, including but not limited to the ipod Nano is sitting unopened in the package on my desk.

Puppies belong on leashes, people do not...

  • I don't want a tangle of wires and cords running between my MP3 player and my ear
  • I don't want to have to install special software on my Tablet PC or desktop to load my MP3 player
  • I don't want to carry an assortment of travel chargers and batteries when I travel
  • I want great sound without having to purchase or carry a separate set of ear buds around

I want great sound and convenience in one package and both the original Oakley Thump and the New Oakley Thump 2 sunglasses give me that.

I like racing down a ski slop listening to music without worrying about being strangled by cables and wires if I fall.

Most of all I like the feeling of freedom and the unencumbered feeling of having it all.

  Oakley Thump      Oakley Thump 2

As you can see from the photos above the look and style of the Thump 2 is very different from the original Thump.    The size and style of the Thump 2 is more suited to men then women.   None the less with women taking a fancy to men's watches and oversized sunglasses I don't think it will deter those of the female persuasion.

Also worth noting is the fact that when you take into accountin the cost of a good MP3 player along with good earbuds and combine it with the price of good sunglasses.. the cost of the Thump 3 is reasonable.

For those who disagree with me, your entitled to you opinion.   But I have several pair of sunglasses without MP3 cababilities that cost more than the Thump 2 costs.   Considering the quality of the optics along with the sound quality and convenience of not having to carry separate MP3 player around I don't feel that the $349.00 - $449.00 price tag of the Thump 2 is out of line.

Oakleys MicroClear Bag for cleaning and storage comes with the Thump 2 and serves a dual purpose,  I use the included bag in my purse or around town.  I purchased the soft vault which holds both the Thump 2 (or Thump) along with the charging cable for when I travel or I'm heading to the slopes and want to pack them in my equipment bag.

Oakley also offers a Wall Charger With International Adapters

Our wish List.....

a Morphing of the Thump, Thump 2 and the Razwire!

  • Quality MP3 sound without Wires
  • 6 hours of battery life
  • Excellent sound quality
  • long battery life
  • Available in 1 gig capacity - 240 songs

  • Design, style and size of the Thump 2 is more suited to men then woman

In Conclusion:

Besides the improvements in sound and memory, Boarders, bikers and racers and sports enthusiasts alike will appreciate the new design of the Thump 2

How is it that Oakley's sunglasses continue to fall into the category of a Tablet PC accessory?   Its simple both the Razrwire and the Thump 2 can be connected to your Tablet to charge and in the case of the Thump 2, you can drag and drop music (or files) from your Tablet PC to the Thump 2.

That said as far as is concerned, Oakley's wearable electronic eyewear qualifies as a Tablet PC accessory as well as a fashion accessory.  Besides that, given the fact that if I am wearing the Thump or Thump 2 I don't need to cary extra USB keys or an MP3 player and when I wear the Razrwires I don't need a bluetooth headset.

*Note: Songs transferred to iTunes from CDs are in the .m4a file format, which is compatible with THUMP 2. Songs purchased from the iTunes Music Store are in the m4p format and are not compatible with THUMP 2 because Apple reserves that format for iPod use only.

Self-contained digital audio system

Your ears are on your head, so why should your music system hang on your waist? THUMP 2 delivers over 240 head-thumping music tracks directly to your brain without wires. Your favorite songs are pumped out of something you’re already wearing, and there are no tangling cords to restrict movement or endanger you during sports or other activities. The durable, solid-state memory means skip-free music in environments where song players with moving parts wouldn't’t stand a chance.

THUMP 2 is the perfect compliment to your digital music library. A Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connection lets you transfer songs quickly and easily from your Mac or Windows-based PC. Load the songs you want to hear now, and free yourself from digging through your entire song library so you can focus on whatever you’re doing, whether it’s laying out on the beach or laying out a backflip at the halfpipe.

State-of-the-art fidelity

The integrated electronics feature a 75MHz Digital Signal Processor, custom engineered to get premium sound out of compressed MP3 and WMA song files. An 18-bit Sigma Delta DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) is optimized for acoustically pure audio with a signal-to-noise ratio of greater than 87dB. Sound processing includes anti-pop algorithms and short-circuit protection for crystal clear audio. Custom speakers pump out a full range of frequency response, up to the 20,000 Hz limit of human hearing. All that adds up to true-sounding music with stunning fidelity.

Advanced cranial hardware

The speakers can be adjusted with six degrees of freedom, allowing you to position them next to your ears at almost any angle — something you can’t do with a conventional headset. And no more jamming things in and out of your ears, or accidentally jerking out an earphone with a tangled cord. Best of all, you can pivot the earphones away when you need to deal with phone calls or have a conversation. The all-or-nothing design of conventional earphones has been replaced with a system that lets you precisely control the balance of music and environment.

Optical overkill

All this technology is packed into a definitive eyewear sculpture that reflects the distinction of the wearer. Patented XYZ Optics® offers virtually distortion-free vision, even at the sides of wrapped, raked-back lens contours. Plutonite® lens material blocks 100% of all UV and harmful blue light (not just UVA and UVB), and Iridium® lens coatings cut glare and optimize vision.

THUMP 2 exceeds all ANSI Z87.1 standards for optical performance, offering razor sharp clarity. This is achieved with Oakley’s High Definition Optics® (HDO®), a combination of proprietary geometries, premium materials and state-of-the-art design and production technologies. Oakley HDO® maximizes visual clarity and minimizes the performance-reducing weaknesses common to all lenses, including properties of lens astigmatism, refractive power, prismatic power and prismatic imbalance.
