The wait is over.... The Lenovo Yoga 13 Ultrabook is here, and I can tell you that without question, it was worth the wait. First shown at CES last January, the Lenovo Yoga has been the most anticipated Windows 8 Tablet released.
It's All in the Details........
From the minute you have Yoga's elegant black box in your hands, you know you have something special... and what's inside doesn't disappoint.
Packed with power and loaded features, the Yoga 13 stands out from the crowd in may ways. Starting with the 360 degree "flip and fold" design that lets you use Yoga as a laptop, standing up in "tent" style or folded flat like a tablet.
Having the ability to change how you view Yoga with out having to carry around extra accessories gives users the flexibility to have everything they want in one one slim, elegant machine.
Features include your choice of Core i3, i5 or i7 Intel processors up to 8GB RAM, Windows 8, 10 point multi touch display, Lenovo Motion Control, which uses the webcam as an input device, that allows you to flip pages, rewind/forward music, change the volume, and gesture other simple commands with a flick of the hand. ( i have not had an opportunity to test this yet)
Who it's for ...
Weighing in at 3.4 pounds with a 13.3" HD+IPS capacitive multi touch display the Yoga 13 is the perfect machine for anyone who needs to work, likes play and wants do it all on one computer without squinting or having to carry around a lot of extra accessories.
In Laptop mode the Yoga is pleasure to navigate, the Metro tiles are easy to read and the touch/swipe features of Windows 8 work easily. I also spent time carrying it up and down the stairs and taking it outside to for photos. Yoga impresses on every level. It feels strong and sturdy, but at the same time its remarkable thin and light. As you can see from the photo below when closed the Yoga 13 is thinner than a tube of lipstick.
Flipping the screen into tent mode is as easy as flipping the page in a book and Yoga in tent mode is great for watching a Movie and playing games or sharing a screen with someone. Even in tent mode the Yoga 13 remains sturdy.
Thanks to the 360 degree hinged the Yoga 13 easily folds flat for use in tablet mode. A 13 inch Tablet isn't ideal for for carrying around in the crook of your arm for long periods of time but if your laying it on a table or on a pillow in your lap the touch screen is easy to swipe and navigate.
After three trips to NYC in 5 weeks, its safe to say that at this time of year i'm a road warrior. I think its safe to say that the Yoga would allow me to work on the plane a see what i was doing, and then switch to tent mode to enjoy a movie or two on a beautiful screen while flying cross across the country. Laptop, tablet or tent mode all in one machine with no accessories needed, very nice indeed.
Lenovo classifies the IdeaPad Yoga 13 as an ultra slim, multi-mode Ultrabook laptop that functions as a traditional notebook, tablet and more. I classify the Yoga 13 as near perfection.
