The HP 2730p EliteBook Tablet PC
Tablet PC has an exceptionally good indoor /outdoor display
It's All in the Details........
Weighing in at 3.74 pounds the HP 2730p EliteBook Tablet PC is housed in a stainless steal case with a small HP logo on the lid. Battery life runs from between 3 and 15 hours depending on the configuration and settings so traveling with the 2730p Tablet PC you know you have the battery life to get your work done in your office, with clients, at a trade show or flying coast to coast on a plane.
Passes rigorous MIL-STD 810F testing: ( from the HP web site)
| • |
Designed to meet the tough military standards (MIL-STD 810F) for altitude, high temperatures and dust, the HP EliteBook 2730p can operate at extreme temperatures over 60 °C/140 °F and below –29 °C/–20 °F. |
Not having to worry about pulling out a machine covered in unsightly fingerprints is another advantage of the HP 2730 Tablet PC. You only get to make one first impression and walking into a meeting and pulling out a machine covered in unsightly fingerprints does not make for a good impression. Pulling put a stainless steal machine with dual-pointing devices and a great screen does.
Another nice detail is the blue light on the button for the wireless that allows you see at a glance if the wireless working or if it is turned off.
The inclusion of both touch pad & point stick, combined with a scroll zone, jog dial and touch-sensitive controls make the HP 2730p EliteBook Tablet PC user friendly for everyone.
As I have said before, living in sunny Southern California with clients and traveling back and forth across the country Its nice to be able to travel with one Tablet PC rather than several. The12.1" diagonal Illuminate WVA WXGA anti-glare screen on HP's 2730p Tablet PC allows me to demo it in a variety of locations and situations so I can travel with a single machine and not worry about beings able to view the screen where ever I happen to end up.
If a meeting suddenly gets moved poolside, slope side or into someone's living room with 15 foot glass windows overlooking the pacific ocean I can still get my work done. I can do a demo without the risk being of embarrassed when I try to demo a machine that can not be seen in bright light.
These are important features.

What's in The Box: The review unit I had here did not include the "boxed" components of a retail system so it is not pictured.

The screen on the HP 2730p EliteBook Tablet PC
looks great in my office
The Pen and Ink Experience: The "Pen Feel" when your writing on the display is excellent, writing flows easily and the pen itself feels good in your hand. HP improved the pen compartment so the pen falling out is no longer an issue
Battery Life : 3 hours 16 minutes of battery life with brightness turned all the way up, the wireless and blue tooth on, no standby, sleep disabled and the screen and hard drive set to always on.
HP claims that up to 15 hours of battery life is possible with the optional battery slice. While I did not have the Battery slice here to test that myself however I have no reason to doubt that with the setting set to maximize battery life rather than performance it is possible to get
There is no question that the settings I use for the battery test give the shortest amount of battery life. This is done intentionally -I need to know the absolute minimum battery life I can expect and I prefer to use the high performance settings when I'm working. That is why I run the battery test the way that I do.

Display: 12.1" diagonal Illumi-Lite WVA WXGA anti-glare (1280 x 800) display is sharp, bright, crisp and clear - This is an exceptional screen indoors and out which is of great value to those of us who never know where we will be working.
Speaker: A single speaker located on bottom right is the flaw in an otherwise perfect Tablet PC. While I understand that the business model of a Tablet PC is not designed for "listening pleasure" the sound quality from the mono speaker is terrible.
Who is it For: While the HP 2730p Tablet PC was designed with the business user in mind, it would be an excellent choice for anyone and everyone who wants a light weight, feature rich Tablet PC. This would be a great Tablet for students.

Everything about the HP 2730p Tablet PC feels strong and sturdy. Its very comfortable in your hand and the keyboard feel good under your fingers. Having the option of using the track pointer or the the track pad means everyone will be happy. Personally I'm a fan of the track pad which is smooth and responsive.
