From The Fujitsu Website:
T4010 Tablet PC

Take this convertible for a ride—put the top down and use digital ink to take unobtrusive hand-written notes and draw diagrams during meetings and seminars, or write directly onto slides for emphasis during your presentation. Put the top up when you use your notes, drawings, and annotated graphics in a formal report. The LifeBook® T4000 Tablet PC provides the full power, functionality, and familiarity of a notebook yet offers versatile digital inking capabilities.

The wide viewing-angle display means you get a bright, clear image at almost any angle while the integrated wireless LAN technology allows you to stay connected when running from meeting to meeting and back to your desk. Take advantage of the flexible modular bay to install a second battery for the longest of workdays. Or install a modular optical drive to watch movies on DVD, listen to music CDs, and store data. The optical drive features the T4000-exclusive patent pending BayLock™ feature which protects the optical drive when the system is in tablet mode.

The Fujitsu Lifebook T4010 is a 1.8 ghz convertible style Tablet PC, which is the fastest processor available currently shipping in a Tablet PC.  With 512 ram installed the Fujitsu's boot time is just under 60 seconds. We got a very respectable and 4 Hours 17 minutes of battery life with the Tablet running in always on mode, with the wireless on, no standby, no hibernate and the screen and hard drive set to always on.

Fujitsu also includes an excellent "Getting Started with your Lifebook T series Tablet PC"  that has both visual diagrams and step by step instructions for turning on and setting up and getting started with your new tablet pc.   For those who are not Familiar with a Tablet PC this comes in very handy.

The 12.1 inch display is clear and the color saturation is good. The new 160 degree wide viewing angle means you do not have to be sitting front and center to clearly see the screen.  This comes in handy when your trying to share the screen with others for demo purposes.

The case design of T4010 Tablet PC is comfortable in your hand and buttons as well as pen removal are easy to use even with long finger nails.  While the T4010 does get warm it does not get hot.

As you can see the screen on the T4010 can be easily used in the shade
if you intend on using your T4010 outdoors you will need to upgrade to the indoor/outdoor screen.

The screen swivels smoothly and the T4010 will automatically detect when you swivel the screen and change from from landscape mode to portrait mode and back accordingly.

Another feature worth noting is the fact that the Fujitsu Optical drive can be replaced with a "Blank Bay", in doing so you reduce the weight of the T4010 by 7 ounces.  Another option is swapping out the optical drive for a second battery to extend your running time.

Fujitsu T4010 in full sun Tablet PC in full sun

As you can see from the photos above the indoor display can not be seen in full sun

Although the LifeBook T4010 we have here came with integrated Bluetooth, and a DVD RW neither the Bluetooth software or the DVD software came pre-loaded on the Tablet.  While this is an annoying inconvenience, the problem is easily solved as the software for both the Bluetooth and the DVD are on the included CD ROMS that ship with the T4010.

The most notable con we came across is the substandard sound the emenates from the built in speakers.  The T4010 Tablet PC is Not for those who like to listen to CD's while working. ( If down the line we find that this was an isolated problem with our test machine we will make a point of correcting this review and letting you know.)

Fujitsu Tablet PC Menu
The Fujitsu Menu remains one of our favorite Features

From the Fujitsu Menu you have instant access to the Control Panel, Tablet pc keyboard, Tablet and pen settings, Fujitsu display controls, brightness control, sounds and audio devices, capture screen, capture window, Organize favorites, power options, printers and faxes, LCD brightness MIN, LCD brightness MAX,  Enable/disable Button Panel and the Fujitsu menu settings, which are customizable.

From the Fujitsu Web site:    One-Touch Application Launch Buttons
There are five intuitive and easy-to-use buttons that enable you to launch applications or easily navigate within them. With one-touch launch buttons you can easily rotate your screen orientation or scroll up and down within an application document. Each of these buttons also has secondary functions, and two of the secondary functions are user-programmable which means you can assign your most commonly used applications to those buttons for quick and easy access.

buttons

Clearly Fujitsu has gone out of the way to ensure that the functions of its Tablet PC are easy to locate and easy to access, which makes the "out of box" user experience much beter.

 Fujitsu Tablet PC Screen

The Display:  While the 12.1 inch XGA Screen has nice color, it is not as clean or as crisp as we have come to expect from a expected from Fujitsu.  In all fairness this might not be as noticeable if we did not have 6 other tablets sitting on the desk to compare it with.    While this is not the outdoor viewable screen you can see it well outdoors in indirect light

Battery Life:  4 Hours 17 minutes in always on mode, wireless on, no standby, no hibernate and the screen and hard drive on.

Heat:  the T4010 does get warm but uncomfortably so and certainly not hot

WiFi: Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection (802.11b/g)

Notable Features:

•Flexible Form Factor
•Media Slot
•BayLock™
•Active Digitizer
•Multiple Display Options

•Fujitsu Software Utilities

  • easy pen access, even if you have long fingernails
  • Integrated Bluetooth for wireless connectivity to peripherals
  • dual array mic
  • finger nail friendly - Which may not be important to all you but it is important to those of us who do have long nails

The Cons:

  • Below average sound quality from built in speakers
  • Bluetooth software is included but not installed
  • DVD software is included but not installed
  • Defaults to factory set screen resolution of 1024 x 768 after you have changed it.

In Conclusion:

The new Fujitsu LifeBook T4010 is a convertible Tablet PC designed with convenience and ease of use.  Having keyboard and an built in optical drive in a 4.6 pound package makes the Fujitsu T4010 a good choice for those who feel they cant be without an attached keyboard.   Only thing to keep in mind here is that if your a person who listens to CD's while working this may not be a the best choice for you.

The T4010 is available in multiple configurations ranging from $1599.00 to $2249.00.
