Lenovo Thinkpad X61 Tablet PC

The First Tablet PC featuring the new Intel Santa Rosa Processor

With the new Intel "Santa Rosa" Core 2 Duo processor, L7500 (1.6GHz) under the hood the most notable as well as noticeable difference in the Lenovo X61 is pure speed.

Add to that a clearer and brighter screen and better wireless performance and I have in my hand one Very Sweet Tablet PC....

The X61 I have here has a Core 2 Duo processor, L7500 (1.6GHz)  with 2Ghz of ram, 100GB 7200RPM Hard drive, Mobile Intel 965 Express Graphics, and a MultiView XGA Touchscreen .

While I make it habit not to comment on battery life or performance on pre production machine I will tell you that this is the fastest booting Vista machine I have seen to date.   In fact it booted so quickly I thought i imagined it so I shut it down and rebooted it.  Another noticeable feature is the screen appears to be both clearer and brighter on the New X61.I'm sure that as time goes on I discover more of the tweaks and improvements Lenovo has put into the X61 Tablet PC, so I will keep track of them as time goes on and let you know more when I post a full review.

Right out of the box the first thing I noticed is that the IBM name is no longer on lid or the Deck of the new X61.

The new Lenovo X61 Tablet PC weighs in at 3.76 pounds, is 1.1" thin and will offers users, faster boot up times, longer battery life and plenty of options and configuration choices.

As the Lenovo name gains recognition in the United States they continue updating, tweaking and improving on their already well designed and carefully thought out notebooks.

What is Santa Rosa?  Core 2 Duo
      from the intel websites

Designed to give users better overall performance and graphics, improved wireless connectivity, and improved security and manageability while lowering platform power usage, Santa Rosa will use Intel’s next-generation dual-core mobile microprocessor based on the Intel® Core™ microarchitecture.

It is comprised of a next generation Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor, the Mobile Intel® 965 Express chipset family, Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N network connection, Intel® 82566MM and 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection, and optional Intel® Turbo memory.

Santa Rosa will provide notebooks with new technologies like 802.11n wireless and flash memory. Intel believes that it will be the first to add flash memory to a notebook motherboard, which will improve boot times and reduce power consumption.

Preliminary Conclusion.....

The Lenovo X61 Tablet PC is a product of evolution and I have to say from where I'm sitting....its evolving very nicely.    If this is any indication of what the production units have in store for us...then you can expect a new Editors Choice Tablet PC in the near future.
